It’s not good for man to be alone. (Genesis 2:18)
Two are better than one. (Ecclesiastes 4:9)
As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. (Proverbs 27:17)
A man who has many friends must himself be friendly. (Proverbs 18:24)
This is but a small sample of the over 100 scriptures about friends and friendship found in the Word of God. Our quality of life is largely determined by who we spend time with. God created us for relationships with others. We were not made to go it alone.
Everyone needs friends. But, what kind of friends? What does a good friend look like? How do we find one? How do we keep one? How do we become one? How do we avoid bad relationships?
In Proverbs 13:20(NKJV), we read, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed”.
The Bible is a constant comparison of two groups of people; righteous vs. unrighteous, good vs. evil, wise vs. foolish, diligent vs. lazy, godly vs. ungodly, wicked vs. faithful. Saint vs. sinner.
Two kingdoms are at war with each other. God uses people. The Devil uses people. As believers we are told to be the salt and the light to a lost and dying world. We are to be problem solvers for both those who love us as well as those who don’t like us. God gives us a clear and successful path to follow whether dealing with strangers, friends, family or our own spouse.
