Tabor combines clues from the Gospel of John, the story of Elijah, the Dead Sea Scrolls and other historical writings that point to the location of a Jesus hideout east of Jordan, near Calim. He demonstrates how the combination of archaeology, historical documents such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Bible texts produces a unique picture of the Nazarene movement and the geography of Jesus' life.
James Tabor is an associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His latest book. Why Waco: Cults and the Battle for Religious Freedom in America (University of California, 1995). Tabor recently participated in the Third Judean Desert Expedition at Qumran and worked on the excavations at Sepphoris directed by James Strange. Tabor recently spent three weeks in Jordan studying the desert fortresses relating to the Dead Sea Scrolls and John the Baptist.
